Lost long messages while switching apps

This is horrible as this never happened with previous versions of Whatsapp.
I wrote a very important message, and switched to contacts app to grab a phone number and when I came back to Whatsapp I lost the entire message. This is so horrible and frustrating that you guys play around with unnecessary things at the cost of important ones.
